El Picacho Expedition: Hike Above the Zapotec Valley
Trip highlights
El Picacho in Teotitlán del Valle is a rewarding medium-challenge hike through Oaxaca’s semi-arid highlands, ideal for travelers seeking an active outdoor experience.
The day begins early to avoid the intense midday heat, with a steady ascent starting at 1,700 meters above sea level and climbing approximately 300 meters through rugged terrain, native cacti and dry valley vegetation.
Led by a local community guide alongside our federally certified nature guide, the hike offers insight into the natural landscape and Zapotec traditions of the region.
