Trip highlights

After exploring Oaxaca's mountains, archaeological sites, and vibrant traditions, there's no better way to recharge than along Oaxaca's Pacific coast. This private three-day journey blends hidden beaches, coastal lagoons, wildlife, and unforgettable sunsets while traveling with a federally certified local guide.

Begin with breakfast in Zicatela before relaxing at Playa Carrizalillo or Playa Coral. Swim, enjoy fresh seafood, or take an optional surf lesson before settling into accommodations near Manialtepec Lagoon.

On the second day, choose between an optional kayak or paddleboard experience or a guided nature and birdwatching boat excursion before enjoying one of the highlights of the journey: sunset at the tidal inlet where Manialtepec Lagoon meets the Pacific.

The final day takes you into Chacahua National Park, traveling through mangrove channels before reaching one of Oaxaca's most spectacular beaches.

Itinerary

Day 1 โ€” Oaxaca City to the Pacific Coast
5:00 AM Depart Oaxaca City early and enjoy a scenic drive through the Sierra Madre toward the coast.
Breakfast Enjoy an included breakfast at one of our favorite local restaurants in Zicatela.
Beach Time Spend the day at Playa Carrizalillo or Playa Coral. Swim, relax, enjoy fresh seafood, or take an optional surf lesson.
Getting Ready Stop for water, snacks, and light breakfast essentials before checking into accommodations near Manialtepec Lagoon.
Evening Enjoy dinner at your leisure and rest before the next day's lagoon adventure.
Day 2 โ€” Manialtepec Lagoon
Morning Choose between an optional kayak or paddleboard experience or a guided nature and birdwatching boat excursion.
Lunch & Free Time Meet for lunch, discuss the next day's adventure, and enjoy the afternoon at your own pace.
Sunset Take an optional boat ride to the tidal inlet where Manialtepec Lagoon meets the Pacific. Enjoy sunset, drinks, a beach bonfire, and seasonal bioluminescence when conditions allow.
Day 3 โ€” Chacahua National Park
8:00 AM After breakfast, drive to the marina and board a boat for a scenic journey through Chacahua's mangrove channels.
Chacahua Relax by the Pacific, hike to the lighthouse, enjoy fresh seafood, watch for wildlife, or take an optional surf lesson.
3:30 PM Begin the journey home. Arrival in Oaxaca City is approximately 9:00 p.m. Guests continuing on the coast may be dropped off in Puerto Escondido or Zicatela.

Pick-up and drop-off: Oaxaca City or Puerto Escondido are included in the listed price. Huatulco can be arranged for an additional transportation fee.

What's not included

Kayak or paddleboard rental: approximately USD $29 per hour, per equipment.

Guided kayak or paddleboard experience: approximately USD $55 per person for 2.5 hours.

Boat transportation to Chacahua National Park: approximately USD $255 round private trip, paid directly on-site to the local boat cooperative.

Optional surf lesson: available at Playa Carrizalillo or Chacahua; price varies by instructor.

Sunset boat excursion: optional and available upon request.

Meals: Except breakfast on Day 1 and bottled water, meals and beverages are not included. Budget approximately USD $27โ€“30 per person, per meal.

Also not included: personal purchases, snacks, alcoholic beverages, gratuities, travel insurance, medical expenses, and personal expenses.

Important information

Rainy season: June through October. Brief showers are common and rarely affect the overall experience, but severe tropical weather may require changes or cancellation.

Ocean conditions: Strong swells may occasionally make swimming or certain water activities unsuitable.

What to bring: Sunscreen, mosquito repellent, swimwear, towel, comfortable sandals or water shoes, sunglasses, hat, and cash for optional activities and meals.

Accommodation: Two nights in a comfortable, air-conditioned hotel room based on double occupancy. Single occupancy may be available for an additional fee.

Special requirements: Please advise us in advance about dietary restrictions, food allergies, mobility concerns, or other accommodations.

Weekdays recommended: Monday through Friday generally offer a quieter experience, although weekend departures are available.
