Living Traditions: Day of the Dead with Oaxaqueños
Roots of Remembrance: Day of the Dead, the Oaxacan Way
Day of the Dead in Oaxaca is not something you simply observe—it’s something you live.
On Thursday, October 29th, join us for an immersive 6.5 to 7-hour experience that invites you into one of Oaxaca’s most meaningful traditions: the creation of a Day of the Dead altar. Guided by oaxaqueños, you’ll learn the symbolism behind every element—flowers, food, mezcal, candles, and photographs—and discover why this ritual lies at the heart of local identity.
You’ll collect fresh flowers, admire sweeping agave fields, and share moments with local families while enjoying a traditional Oaxacan breakfast. With your own hands, you’ll help build an altar, transforming tradition into a lived experience. The journey concludes with an array of artisanal mezcal tastings, each expression telling a story of land, agave, and heritage.
This experience goes beyond cultural observation—it’s an opportunity to take the spirit of Day of the Dead with you and weave it into your own life long after you leave Oaxaca.
